Tenuta Argentiera stands in a magnificent patch of land in the Maremma that blends countryside and sea, suspended between woods and Mediterranean scrub.

We are at the heart of the small but prestigious Doc Bolgheri, a terroir dedicated to great red wines and synonymous with the celebrated “Super Tuscan.”
The name Argentiera carries significant meaning: it comes from the silver (“argento”) mines that once dotted the hills of this high lying area of the Maremma – a place rich in natural springs and healing waters.
The Estate is the closest winery to the Tyrrhenian coast and at the same time, the highest in altitude of the entire Bolgheri territory, reaching 200 meters above sea level. This dichotomy makes it stand out among all other estates, relishing in a microclimate with unique characteristics.

Set perfectly amidst the Bolgheri landscape, the cellar dominates with natural elegance from a plateau located above the estate situated at two hundred meters in altitude.

The building's design follows the typical construction of the area; sober and respectful in architectural style with respect to the surrounding beauty, while at the same time possessing all of the features of an avant-garde winery.

The external walls of the building are thick and sloping to encourage natural temperature regulation. On the ground floor, wide open spaces are dedicated to welcoming guests and conducting tastings, with a large, climatized room for receiving hand-picked grapes that are then rigorously selected and de-stemmed during harvest.

Wine is processed underground in large spaces that optimize natural thermal conditions: during harvest, the grapes fall with the force of gravity from the upper floor and begin the fermentation process, activated both by pressing as well as remontage and délestage in modern steel tanks at a constant temperature, regulated by a sophisticated computer system that controls the flow of hot and cold water.

The heart of the structure is the aging cellar: under grandiose arches that punctuate the lines of the ceiling, 1200 French oak barrels stand silent in the delicate final phase of winemaking at an optimal temperature of 16 degrees Celsius.

From the large terraces on the first floor you can admire the magnificence of the Bolgheri territory – the vineyards, the dunes, the sea – with a view that embraces the gulf from Castiglioncello to Baratti and on clear days, even the islands Elba and Corsica stand on the horizon.

Tenuta Argentiera
Project
Architect:
Bernardo Tori
Year of realization:
2001

The project of the Cantina of Tenuta Argentiera was born together with many projects of new Winery, projects that are called to host and give a new "big house" and a distinctive sign to significant production activities that operate in the context and in the agricultural landscape.

Hence this important new structure.

Building in a place of great panoramic and landscape value, where nature, history and culture find an extraordinary synthesis, prompted the designers to want to recall here some significant architectural elements that over time have distinguished and characterized significant places on the Tuscan Coast between Livorno and Grosseto . The building takes on and makes its own forms, materials, colors and suggestions that escape the control of time, no longer attributable to a precise era, to a function that by now many times has adapted to the transformations that have taken place in society, to become part of each one's experience.

From an architectural point of view, efforts have been made to endow the production building with a symbolic value, to make it an icon of the place, almost as if it were an emanation of the place itself. The project, in its external aspect, therefore refers to the tradition of the buildings in charge of the control and defense of the territory, to the Fort of Marina di Castagneto, the Fort of Bibbona, to the Castle of Bolgheri, recovering the typical elements of the Defense Structures. Then you discover the large service courtyard that gives light and supports the operation of the workers and vehicles operating in the 5000 square meters of underground spaces. Here large arches give access to the tinaia, the barrique room, the bottling and the aging warehouses, where the climate is managed by accurate systems for controlling temperature, humidity, lighting, security etc.

Everything was born from the choice of location, and the construction typology is a direct consequence. The project was therefore developed to meet the needs of the winemaking process by creating large underground work spaces, an important work yard for vehicle access, a large covered and air-conditioned room for the reception of the grapes, from which, by fall , the vats are fed at controlled temperature.

From the large terraces on the first floor you can fully enjoy the richness of the territory and experience the nice relationships that bind the sea, the hills and the vineyards with your eyes; the rooms for tastings, meetings and the company's administrative offices are located here.

Wines

Ventaglio - IGT Toscana
Ventaglio’s superior complexity and structure, balanced by undeniable elegance, represent the utmost expression of Cabernet Franc in Bolgheri. All work on the green vines and harvesting are performed exclusively by hand, minimising treatments and ensuring that all growing methods are oriented toward complete environmental sustainability and maintenance of the soil’s vitality. The “shape of the wine” is a direct result of the shape of the vineyard. The “morning grapes”, “midday grapes” and “evening grapes” are fermented together, summing their differences in aromatic development, ripeness and freshness to create a wine that is more than the sum of its parts, an all-round “collective natural creation” in which all the nuances of the terroir find their proper, balanced expression.

Argentiera - DOC Bolgheri Superiore
Argentiera, Doc Bolgheri Superiore, draws its strength and uniqueness from the magnificent territory in which it’s generated. The grapes come from the estate’s best vineyards of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It is a wine with a rich and silky taste. A long maturation in French oak barrels, the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and the unique terroir of Tenuta Argentiera make this wine on of the greatest expressions in the Bolgheri area.

Villa Donoratico - DOC Bolgheri Rosso
To describe a wine, it is necessary to decipher its origin – the landscape, the place, the environment from which it is born – in order to fully understand its nature.
Villa Donoratico is a decidedly consistent and complex wine that never risks normality, demonstrating a character deeply linked to territory.
Matured in oak, it is extraordinarily drinkable and faithful to its identity, year after year. A nose full of red fruit and a pleasant spice on the palate.

Poggio ai Ginepri Rosso - DOC Bolgheri Rosso
Poggio ai Ginepri – Bolgheri DOC – is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot vinified separately and extracted by soft pressing. A nice wine with defined structure and pronounced concentration. The wine’s olfactory panorama is ample and profound while at once immediate and present. An intense structure characterizes this wine, but with a beautiful softness and a remarkably clean finish.

Poggio ai Ginepri Rosato - DOC Bolgheri Rosato
The wine resembles the color of a bright pink peony. On the nose it expresses high toned notes of red fruit. Shades of cherry and raspberry underline its freshness.
A well-balanced palate gives way to an aftertaste not only of berries but of rosehips.

Poggio ai Ginepri Bianco - IGT Toscana Vermentino
Intense straw yellow in color. Fresh on the nose with fruit-forward notes of pear, banana and apricot. On the palate, floral tones of lavender and white flowers in addition to a certain herbaceouness defined by wild sage. On the palate, the wine is fresh and easy drinking; truly well balanced. A long, flavorful finish is pronounced by aromatics and definitive minerality.
